Moscow declares Putin to visit India by 2025’s end

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit India by the end of 2025 for an annual summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced during a joint press conference with Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar in Moscow.

The summit aims to bolster bilateral relations amid complex global developments. Lavrov noted preparations for a comprehensive agenda and highlighted that last year, trade between the two countries grew 15%, marking a post-Soviet record.

Jaishankar emphasized the growing economic partnership and the shared goal of expanding trade sustainably. During his visit, he co-chaired the 26th Intergovernmental Commission with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, describing the meeting as highly productive.

Additionally, India and the five-nation Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) have agreed on terms to start negotiations for a free trade agreement. The visit comes amid rising US-India tensions, as the US plans to impose an additional 25% tariff on Indian imports over New Delhi’s continued Russian oil purchases. Jaishankar criticized the US measures as unfair, noting that energy trade with Russia remains ongoing.
